I spend way too much time on the internet...but I guess so do my readers. I now have added yet another exciting and informative site to my already crowded portfolio online. For the past few weeks I have been managing and nurturing the Facebook page for The Collinsville Antiques Company of New Hartford, CT.  Collinsville Antiques is one of the largest Antique Malls in New England with 22,000 square feet packed with dealers who carry everything you can imagine.

The Collinsville Antiques Company is
also the place where I have my own booth called Kitsch n Stuff specializing in retro and kitchen collectibles. I have always carried Mid Century smalls, but now many of my co-dealers at our Mall are adding Mid Century furnishings as well.

Take A Day Trip To Connecticut And Antique

For those of you who like to take a day trip and hunt for  antiques, The Collinsville Antiques Company (open everyday 10-5) is located in an area of Connecticut with many antique and collectibles shops.  You can also have a delicious lunch right in The Collinsville Antiques Company at their retro cafe, "Crusin Cafe" (cafe closed on Monday and Tuesday).

Antique Booth Intervention: Mixing Up The Color Combinations Of Collectibles

Drastic Measure For Kitsch n Stuff Antique Booth

The time had come to go to my shop "Kitsch n Stuff" at The Colllinsville Antiques Company of New Hartford, CT and take some drastic measures to make the booth look different. For me a radical change is mixing up two unlikely or interesting color combination of kitchen collectibles or creating a vignette with objects that are are little quirky.

Trying A New Color Combination In Your Antique Booth

Of course many of us who sell kitchen collectibles  we have tried lots of different common color pairings such as red and white, blue and yellow, orange and blue, black and red etc. Sometimes it is helpful to use a piece of fabric or a vintage textile to help you decide on what colors to combine or to highlight. When I get sick of the tablecloths or textiles I use as props in my booth, I usually stroll the others booths at Collinsville Antiques Company and buy as new runner or tablecloth to get my creative juices going.

Start Off With A New Textile Or Tablecloth Color Pattern

On Sunday, I found a colorful piece of barkcloth that was just what the antique booth design doctor ordered. It did the trick. I draped it over a chippy painted narrow table and completely changed the look of this Shabby Chic country console to a funky retro 1950s look. Wow, the power of imagaination.

My advice to my readers who are suffering from winter doldrums and cabin fever is to think COLOR. Come up with some new color combinations in your booth. Let me know how you do?

Do you love vintage housewares and kitschy kitchen collectibles ? I'm hooked on this retro stuff.  I have said it before, I can spend an entire afternoon washing vintage dishes, utensils and kitchenwares and yet leave a sink filled with my own family dishes left for sometime later. The thrill of the hunt is always followed by a desire to carefully unpack my treasures and then soak them in soapy water until they are nice and clean!

Kitsch n Stuff Added A Gallery Of Vintage Prints, Original Paintings And Whimscial Art

For Mother's Day, I decided to give my shop Kitsch n Stuff   located at The Collinsville Antiques Center of New Hartford, CT a new look. Now one large wall has a gallery of vintage and original prints and paintings. The look is FAB. These  charming paintings and prints will not last too long. Now they can be seen instead of tucked away in all the nooks and crannies in my booth. It was a big job re-arranging my booth, but the end results were KITSCH at it's best. Hope to see you there!

My Vintage Suburban Life: Junk In The Trunk

Suburban Antique Pickers Rejoice

I opened up the trunk of my car to unload my grocery bags from the wagon and found a few of the items that I bought at my last "pick". Nothing as exciting as what The American Pickers come up with...no, no, my picks are sweet and sentimental.

What's In The Trunk Of My Car

Currently in my trunk is a 1950's cake saver, a small pile of lace doilies, an old tablecloth, a lovely framed portrait of a Victorian Era lady, some vintage tins and an old postcard or two.

My Vintage Life

So back to unpacking my groceries. I push my collectibles to the back of the trunk to make room for my groceries and I'm warmly reflecting on the combination of collectibles and groceries. This is "my vintage life". It is so natural for me to have milk, eggs, bread and old stuff mingling together on any given day. Keeping company in the back of my Subaru, you might find some used books (crammed into the side pockets of the trunk) along with some plastic doggie poop bags and spare dog food. Life in suburbia!

Fancy Cars Are Not For Antique Pickers

This is "My Vintage Life" and I wouldn't trade it in for another life style. Last weekend a guest arrived in a tiny fancy convertible car. For fun, I asked if I could climb into the driver's side to see what it might be like to sit behind the wheel of a little tiny weenie convertible.
"No, problem, go ahead and try it", my friend said. O.k., I got my middle aged, pear shaped bod into the front seat and looked around.

Room For Kitsch n StuffI looked behind me and noticed a few overstuffed small shopping bags stuffed into the narrow space behind the two front seats. No way could I live my vintage life in this sample size car. There would be no room for my junk. Case closed.

I took some photos of the variety of dealers you will find at The Collinsville Antiques Company of New Hartford. This gigantic store used to be located in the town of Collinsville in the old ax factory, but a few years ago they moved int oa new spot in New Hartford, very close to the old store. The new showroom has better lighting, easier aisles, accessibility for wheelchairs, an in house Retro cafe which serves very good food and lots and lots of terrific dealers.

"Kitsch N Stuff" Gets A Major Make-Over: Now It's Easier To Shop For Kitchen Collectibles

"Kitsch n Stuff", my shop at The Collinsville Antiques Company of New Hartford, Connecticut got a major make-over in the last few days. So if you are wondering where I have been, I've been camped out in my half a booth at Collinsville.

The Transformation Begins: Thinning Out All The Kitsch N Stuff (Antiques and Collectibles).

I had stuffed so much into that booth that it was either time to expand the size of my booth or to
begin to part with some of the "white elephants" and tidy up the space. In essence if I was using the analogy of a haircut....I thinned out the overgrowth.

Opening Up My Kistch N Stuff Booth: Now You Can See The Collections

After several days of working on the project, I'm sore from head to toe....BUT...my booth looks so much better. I took away a glass cabinet that was blocking too much of the entrance to the booth as well as moved around some of the other cabinets. I like the way my white metal cabinet with black and white contact shelf paper looks at the end of booth. It helps to convey the funky tone of my collection. I know you must be thinking that the booth still looks packed.....but you should have seen it before. You couldn't look into the booth, it was fortified like a fort.

I'm Famous For Stacking: Time To Change

All of the veteran dealers at Collinsville told me that there was so much stuff in my booth that some customers were actually afraid to "disturb" some of my stacking towers of kitchenwares. I am one of those folks who likes to use every inch of space.

I'm A "Crammer"

Not only do I cram in things in my booth, but when I work on graphic design projects, I have been know to use up all the "white space".

Antiques And Feng Shui

So creating a more airy booth, was a big deal for me. I feel so much better....I can feel the Feng Shui Gurus shouting out with joy.......
