Creating s Junk Wall: Spotted On The Whimsical Website "Organized Clutter"

Creating a Junk Wall Using Old Wooden Boxes and Collectibles

I found this really fun website called Organized Clutter which features a section on decorating with collectibles. I thought you might enjoy seeing a Junk Wall. I would love to do this in my home, but I just haven't gotten the nerve to carry it out get. Using old wooden boxes to create vignettes is really charming and leaves plenty of room to move things around when you feel like re-decorating. You not only get the inside of the box to use as a display space, but you can use the top of the box as well. This Junk Wall is organized quite well...I guess these gals who run this site really do specialize in   Organized Clutter!

Adding An Element of Surprise When Displaying Antiques and Collectibles

How To Add A Hint of Whimzy To Your Outdoor Antique Booth Displays to Engage Buyers
This is a very well done display of older collectibles. If it was a painting, the viewer could say that the composition is very successful. But then the gal who made this vignette (spotted at the Sandwich, Mass Flea Market took her display one step further. She added a set of newer wooden kitchen utensils and placed them smack in the middle of her well organized "story". The element of surprise is what attracts the buyer to take another look at this interesting display.

Varying Sizes,Heights and Shapes When Grouping Vintage Collectibles In Your Antique Booth or Outdoor Flea Market Display

Creating Chic Flea Market Displays

If you look very closely you willl note that what attracts the viewer to this charming vignette of vintage items is the variety of interesting shapes, sizes and heights. Another visual plus is the use of a black tray as the background for white and glass objects. The tray sits on an old covered basket which is another delightful display element used in this collection.

Displaying Ordinary Small Vintage Objects In Your Antique Booth Or Store

The Art of Creating Attractive Displays of Small Common Vintage Collectibles
This lovely display was spotted at one of my favorite summer Flea Markets in Sandwich, Mass on Cape Cod. Here ordinary items are mixed together in a wooden tote creating a very delightful display. The dealer at this market grouped together a variety of different items to make for a very charming display. Using an old wooden box or tote that has divided compartments is a great way to organize small objects.

Adding A Red Accent To Your Antique Booth Displays

Creating Exciting Antique Booth Displays With The Right Color Combinations

If you have been out shopping in Antique stores or browsing through Home magazines, you will note that Blue and White antiques are back in favor once again. Some people would argue that blue and white is always in style, but I have noticed a renewed interest in these popular collectibles after a dormant period.

When displaying lots of blue and white antiques and collectibles, consider using a touch of red or orange in your display to add interest and break up the monotony of  similar colors.

Creating A Brick Wall On Canvas For Your Antique Mall Booth Or Shop

How To Paint A Faux Brick Wall For Your Antique Mall Booth

Strolling down the aisles of The Collinsville Antiques Company of New Hartford, CT, I spotted a new dealer who had just completed the decorating phase of her new booth. She created a Faux brick wall (which really looked like the real thing) using canvas tarp which can be purchased at large household stores such as Home Depot or Lowes.

Sponging On The "Bricks"

This talented dealer mixed up brick color paint and with the use of a rectangular sponge dipped into the paint she applied the "brick shape" to the canvas. By sponging on the paint with random pressure, you get the look of bricks with white and brick red uneven combinations.

Adding Brackets To The Brick Wall

To fully get use out of the "brick wall" metal brackets were mounted to the canvas cloth with rods to hang antiques and collectbles. What a great idea and I have to be honest, it's a very simple one....even I could do this LOL.

Creating a Kitschy Colorful Backdrop Usng Vintage Metal Trays When Displaying Antiques and Collectibles

Vintage Metal Snack Trays Make Fun Displays Behind Glassware

Vintage metal snack trays are wonderful backdrops when displaying antiques and collectibles. I especially like to add color and interest behind vintage glassware and find the older 1940s and 1950s snack trays to be just the right size and shape for a kitschy look in my shop "Kitsch n Stuff". Notice how the colors of the tray and the glassware compliment each other.

Using A Small Painted Table Top Vintage Shelf Unit With Cubbies In Your Antique Booth

Antique Booth Display Ideas

I love finding cute smaller vintage
shelves to add to a table top to display glassware or other small objects. Finding suitable mini-cabinets in an attractive color with lots of cubbies is not that easy to find. My suggestion is to visit a large Antique Mall or poke around on Etsy.com or other online sources.  sooner or later you will discover just the right display unit for your antique booth.

Colorful Vintage Metal Motel Chairs Lofted As A Display In A Small Antique Booth

Creating More Space In Your Antique Booth By Displaying Chairs On Top Of A Table

Many of us who rent space in an antique booth are always looking for better ways to get the mostroom our of our small booths. Have you ever thought of lifting chairs off the floor onto a table? This creative dealer took colorful outdoor metal motel chairs and raised them off the floor. The surface of the chair seat is used as a display. But there is also plenty of room under the table for storing or exhibiting collectibles. I like the use of a colorful chair . I was able to spot this dealer from a distance...and I was interested enough to visit the booth.

Displaying Vintage Earrings On An Antique Tennis Racket

Vintage Jewelry Looks Great Displayed On The Strings Of An Old Wooden Tennis Racket

Vintage jewelry is not the easiest item to sell in an Antique booth when you have lots of other collectibles, textiles and antiques competing for attention. The small little things such  as costume jewelry generally get lost in the avalanche of STUFF. But one clever dealer I met at the Harwinton Antiques Weekend in Harwinton , CT resolved the jewelry issue by displaying her vintage earrings on   the strings of an
old tennis racket.

What I like about this idea is how terific the aged wooden frame looks as a display prop. The display is eye catching and
invites interest.

Antique Booth Ideas: Displaying Fine Vintage Glassware With A Whimsical Twist

How To Draw Attention To Glassware In Your Antique Shop

One of my favorite shops in Glastonbury, Connecticut, called Griswold Street Antiques is a delightful store carrying a mixture of fine antiques and collectibles often displayed  with a whimsical twist. On a recent visit, I was amused to find fine stemware sitting in a pristine glass display case with a very unexpected "filler" to draw attention to the glassware. Jared, the owner of the shop added brand new crayons to each glass to draw the eye to the stemware. In other glassware, Jared addded dice, game parts, shellsand other colorful objects. He did accomplish whatg he was after, getting visitors to pay attention to what was  insidse this showcase!

Displaying Vintage Tablecloths In Stacked Vertical Wooden Soda Boxes In Your Antique Booth Or Shop

Displaying Colorful Vintage Tablecloths In Your Antique Booth

If you vintage linens you know how hard it is to  display 1940s and 1950s coloroful tablecloths in your shop or antique booth.

Limited Space In Your Antique Booth

When you have limited space you may not have the luxury of being able to hang textiles and tablecloths on a rack. Over the years I have tired many different ways to store and display tablecloths.

Wooden Boxes Form Cubbies For Linens

Recently, I decided to try displaying my tablecloths in several vertically stacked old wooden soda boxes which form cubbies which wortk well for folded linens. I'm not saying that this idea is perfect, because I still have to routinely fold and tidy up my tabelcloths for  sale. But, I do have to tell you, that the system of narrow snacked wooden boxes is working better than other previously tried displays.

Quirky Antique Displays At The English Building Market, New Haven, Ct

Kitschy Retro In Downtown New Haven, CT

It was great to back at the kitschy English Building Market on Chapel Street in  downtown New Haven, CT.  Usually open on Sundays, last week the store was closed to the public because of a special film shoot which was in progress. But the gals were great and they let me photograph the new finds so I could share them with my readers.

I have written about this antique store before in my an earlier post called  "Retro, Vintage, Kitsch At The English Building Market". I must say that every time I visit,  the store has bold exciting displays and fresh merchandise.

Quirky Colorful Antique Displays

If you want to get an idea of what The English Building Market is, banish any stuffy antique store
from your mind. Instead think of this hip Dimestore throwback as similar in feel to the famed Anthropologie retail chain. Anthropologie is known for their quirky displays of colorful goods using  industrial props, vintage vignettes and retro kitsch.

Getting Funky With Imagination

It is always amazing to me how funky one can get with a little imagination. The English Building Market loves to marry 1970s with 1950s or mod 60's with 30's. The expansive showroom is stuffed with vintage, metro-retro and
unique finds.

Chapel Street Attracts College Students

Downtown New Haven is home to Yale University and an area which attracts many twenty-thirty something students  and
professionals. The English Building Market  is a popular  store for young people who like thrifty decorating and retro clothing. During my visit the store was buzzing with young gals dressing up in 1940s-1950s furs and bling for a photo shoot.

Eclectic Collectors

Collectors of all genres will enjoy the wide variety of retro departments at this enormous store. You will find industrial furnishings, office collectibles, sewing notions, textiles furniture, kitchenwares, baking tins and cookware, artwork, linens, glassware, lighting, flatware, clothing, pottery, luggage, maps, globes,  beauty collectibles and more.

Displaying Vintage Kitchen Utensils On A Column Made From Louvered Bifold Doors

Retro Hang-Ups: Louvered Doors For Display

I  spotted this great display idea  at The Colllinsville Antiques Company of New Hartford, Connecticut
It has been awhile since I have added a post to my section on Retro-Hang-Ups. Here is a inexpensive and practical way to hang old vintage kitchen gadgets and tools in your shop. I came across this clever display while strolling the aisles of The Collinsville Antiques Company of New Hartford, CT. This gal took louvered bi-fold doors and created a column in the center of her antique booth to display old kitchen utensils. What I like about this idea is that it uses the space smack in the middle of the booth without blocking too much. It's a great use of space!

Chippy Green Painted Wood File Cabinet Makes Great Display Space In Your Antique Shop Or Home

One way to double duty your antiques and collectibles is to open up the drawers of cabinets. desk, dressers etc. and USE the drawers as display space for other objects.

I spotted an older wooded painted file cabinet at
the store Anthropologie.
As you can see the drawer si stuffed with products that they have for sale. And look how hip the chippy green paint looks with yellow jars. What an attractive color combination.

Now you can think twice abut passing up old cabinets. Perhaps they would make GREAT display space in your shop or home?

Antique Booth Space Ideas: Hanging Vintage Potholders On A Cute Handmade Shelf

Display Ideas For Your Antique Booth

What do visitors see when they walk down the aisle of your Antique Mall to visit your Antique booth space? At The Collinsviile Antiques Company of New Hartford, CT, you will find that my space called "Kitsch n Stuff" has many different "spots" that the eye will catch when approaching my booth.

I like to maximize my real estate so that I use every inch I can for display space.I have used the side of a bookcase to display small pictures or at this time, vintage crochet potholders.

I discovered a cute handmade shelf, made to look like the screened door front entrance of a cottage. The picket fence
is so adorable. Below the shelf are small hooks which work so well for hanging vintage potholders.

Aqua and Orange Look Great When Displaying Antiques And Collectibles

"Pop" Your Antiques And Collectibles Displays With A Surprise Color

just had to share with you how fabulous orange and turquoise or is it aqua look paired together. If you really want top "pop" a display, think out of the box. This adorable and colorful display joins several hard to display objects together in a terrific look. The aqua oval painted frame really is a very attractive backdrop for the orange book and table. Grouping similar objects together by color is a great way to display your antiques and collectibles. But don't forget the "surprise" which is accomplished with the touch of "aqua". Very sweet indeed.

This idea was spotted at Antiques On The Farmington, Collinsville, CT

Displaying Antiques And Collectibles Using Concrete Reinforcment Wire

Hanging Vintage Trivets And Other Collectibles On Concrete Reinforcement WireRetro Hang-Up Ideas

Need more space in your antique shop or antique booth? How about using concrete reinforcement wire to form a grid display to hang your favorite objects on. On a recent trip to "Not Just A Crock", a huge sprawling antique store in Westbrook, Connecticut, I spotted several displays using concrete reinforcement wire.

Antique Window Displays

I have to say that the window displays (using the wire grid) really got my attention. In the photo shown, wrought iron trivets and other objects are hanging from this concrete reinforcement wire. What a great way to gain more "wall" space and to feature trivets of various sizes and shapes.

Choosing The Location Of Your Antique Booth In An Antique Mall: Be Unique And Easy To Remember

How To Choose An Antique Booth In An Antique Mall

The Collinsville Antiques Company of New Hartford, Connecticut is a dynamic place where change is always part of their business formula. As both a booth renter and shopper in this 22,000 square feet Antique Mall, I love showing up to Collinsville and discovering the latest improvement or newest dealer.

Change In An Antique Mall Is Good For Business

All this moving and shaking is good for business. It keeps the place from getting stagnant, stale, boring. My own booth has even moved from the back of the store to what could be considered the front. In either case, whether you say I was in the back corner or now the front corner, I had distinctive spots that people could easily remember where I was located. I wasn't buried or lost in any of the aisles.

Choose An Antique Booth Than Visitors Will Remember

This is an important concept for new dealers to keep in mind when you are renting a booth in an Antique Mall. Be sure that your placement will be located somewhere where a visitor will easily remember how to return to you when they visit again. You need not have the best spot, but you should have a unique spot. For example, easy booth spots to recall are those next to or near landmarks such as the "bathroom", "front desk", "book corner", "back door", "steps" etc.

I think you are catching on to what I am trying to explain in this post. Choose a well lighted space in a distinctive location that will help your customers return to you regularly.
