I have seen  old printers boxes used in lots of different ways. But yesterday I spotted a new twist to an old theme. Anne Burke, owner of Coventry Arts and Antiques gathered up all her odds and ends and organized them in  large printer's box which is laying flat on a table. This idea  is a perfect way to display smaller collectibles as well as orphaned lids, coasters, plates etc. The tiny compartments are just the right size to hold tiny collectibles that would otherwise get lost in a large shop. What makes this display y unique is that the "lids" and tiny plates are propped up so that they can be easily viewed. What a practical and thrifty way to re-cycle vintage items.

 I have heard of a a "hat tree ...but this is a different kind of "hat tree". This is a REAL HAT TREE....I guess. Perhaps more accurately this is a giant  "Hat Tree Branch" ?  On closer examination, you will find that the "tree "  has been spray painted white. This altered  tree uses a main "pole" as the center   "trunk".  Smaller branches were then added to the main "pole" using  white tape. This unique display for vintage hats  appears to be a  ready made piece that was modified to shows off these lovely vintage hats. I think the total effect is quite lovely. What do visitors see when they walk down the aisle of your Antique Mall to visit your Antique booth space? At The Collinsviile Antiques Company of New Hartford, CT, you will find that my space called "Kitsch n Stuff" has many different "spots" that the eye will catch when approaching my booth.

I like to maximize my real estate so that I use every inch I can for display space.I have used the side of a bookcase to display small pictures or at this time, vintage crochet potholders.

I discovered a cute handmade shelf, made to look like the screened door front entrance of a cottage. The picket fence
is so adorable. Below the shelf are small hooks which work so well for hanging vintage potholders.

just had to share with you how fabulous orange and turquoise or is it aqua look paired together. If you really want top "pop" a display, think out of the box. This adorable and colorful display joins several hard to display objects together in a terrific look. The aqua oval painted frame really is a very attractive backdrop for the orange book and table. Grouping similar objects together by color is a great way to display your antiques and collectibles. But don't forget the "surprise" which is accomplished with the touch of "aqua". Very sweet indeed.

Spring is in the air... all the antique dealers I know are gearing up for tag sales and flea markets so that they can replenish their inventory. February and March are in between months for many antique dealers. In many parts of the country the weather is still cold and the shows, sales and markets have not yet started again in full swing.

So at this time of the year, you really need to work with what you have to create some attractive displays. I generally have two kinds of booth makeovers...BIG ONES where I tear apart the entire booth from floor to ceiling, and MINI makeovers which is when I do a little gentle housekeeping and perhaps move a few things around to give the booth a zap of freshness.

Jazz Up Your Antique Booth With Some Sparkle And Pizazz

An easy solution to build some interest in your antique booth or shop is too create new color combinations. As you pack away your Christmas and holiday decor, leave the greens out and save some of the pretty Christmas balls and garland. Try organizing your greens with yellow or orange collectibles. Incorporate vignettes of antiques and collectibles with some of your smalls with flower designs. And add some of the holiday decor that you left out to jazz up your items and to give your shop a lighter, Springy look. Take a look at the plate with the green and silver balls.

At The Salmon Brook Shop Antiques, Granby, CT many dealers have already changed over their booths for Spring. First comes the St. Patrick's themes ....the GREEN 'S are sprouting, along with the clovers. If you do not have any St. Patrick collectibles you can set the holiday tone by selecting a collection of the green ceramics, bowls, vases, plates etc. that you have dispersed in your booth or shop. Put all your greens together and you will have a new and fresh display. But don't forget to add a little yellow or orange to perk up the greens.

Setting Up An Antique Booth Space In A Group Shop Can Be Fun: But Plan First

Are you getting ready to rent space in a Multi-Dealer Antique shop of an Antique Mall? Or are you ready to make some major changes in your current booth space? This post is for folks who need a little help with getting on with the task of setting up an Antique booth.

First Take A Tour Of The Antique Mall

To start the process, I encourage prospective dealers to take a very serious tour of the Mall they are considering. Come prepared with paper, a pencil, a tape measure and perhaps even a Digital camera. Stroll through the Antique Mall. Take some photos of the booths that get your attention or that you observe a clever display idea.

Taking Photos Of Your Antique Mall Booth Space

Also take photos of the booth or space that you will be going into. It's not a bad idea to capture some photos of the existing dealer in the space and then later, the space empty, if that is an option. Be sure to also take some photos of how the booth meets the aisle and what booths are next to yours.

Examine The Elements of Your Antique Mall Booth Space

The exercise of taking photos, allows you to really examine the elements of the space you are considering. Where are the walls? Do the wall go from floor to ceiling or are they partial walls? Are there columns? Is there a window in your booth? What about built in shelves? Is there a short ceiling or a tall one? Can you hang things from the ceiling? Where are the electric outlets? If there already is a display case in your booth, is it lighted? How many shelves does it have? Can you add more shelves? Is it locked?

What Fixtures Can You Buy Or Borrow From The Previous Dealer Or Other Dealer At The Antique Mall

Is the previous dealer interested in leaving or selling any fixtures, display cases etc? Does the owner of the Mall have spare display showcases or shelving to loan you or to sell to you? Also let the manager of the shop know that you may be interested in buying fixtures from another dealer who may also be leaving.

Floor Space In An Antique Mall

Do you want to put a rug down before you move in? How much floor space do you have? Make a drawing of your space. Add all the nooks and crannies. Than go home and measure some of the cabinets, shelves, display units you may want to bring to your space. Play around with a floor plan on paper first. You may not end up using the space in the same way as you imagine, but you will have begun to think through some of the ups and downs of the space and plan accordingly.

I know my vintage linen collectors will cringe over this idea, but my friend Peter who owns Tree House Antiques & Art on Route 44 in New Hartford, CT. ran a tension rod in his side window and hung not so precious kitchen towels on the rod.

I can just hear my friend Elaine (former owner of The Plantsville General Store) now a dealer at The Collinsville Antiques Company of New Hartford, CT. (down the road from Peter) tell me to be careful about the sun fading out textiles in the window. I still think this is a cute idea!

Roll Up Your Vintage Linens And Display In An Old Wooden Box With Compartments

A Retro Roll Up Idea For New & Old Linens

Vintage linens such as towels, napkins, small tablecloth etc. are so hard to keep neat and tidy. But Peter at Tree House Antiques & Art has rolled up smaller linens and orgainzed them in the compartments of a handsome old wooden box. He also brings interest to his display by mixing up the compartments with different kinds of objects.

And contrary to what you might think, rolling up linens does not cause more wrinkles, it actually is a great way to keep them in nice order and shape.

Tips When Photographing Or Showcasing Glass Kitchen Collectibles

When Showcasing Collectibles For Sale Or Online Photos Keep It Simple, Attractive and Colorful

Bottle Of Rain Vintage on Etsy.com really knows how to group together her collectibles to create a real charming and inviting homegrown look.

As you already probably have figured out, I like scouting out sellers who adore kitchen collectibles. And certainly, Bottle Of Rain Vintage caught my attention with these great vignettes.

In the top photos she is selling the polka dot bowl but has nested this funky item surrounded by red objects which really make for a colorful presentation. Notice how the "round" shape is repeated in the bowl, record album, clock, ball. And how the red and white colors appear in several objects.

Styling Glass Kitchen Collectibles

The second photo is featuring a glass pitcher with a cherry design, placed next to Pyrex bowls of similar color. In both of these pictures, the glass objects are showcased because they have been attractively styled with other collectibles.

Tips When Photographing Or Showcasing Collectibles

1. Group similar colors together.
2. Keep your presentations simple.
3. Use at least three objects.
4. Use table surfaces or textiles which do not compete with the objects.
5. When selling online, be sure to tell buyer what item is for sale.
6. Repeat similar shapes.

Take a look at this grand wall decor assemblage, a kitschy "collage" made of all things vintage and then some. Old chairs, "Paint By Number" paintings, bowls, mirrors and more are all arranged together and mounted on the wall.

This is out of control fun organized in a wonderful mix of objects of various shapes, textures, colors and uses. But as they say in the biz....."IT WORKS".

Come on, be honest, don't you want to try this at home?
And look how the objects are overlapped.....great for those of us who hate measuring and spacing out our frames etc.

To be honest, I do see a resemblance to this wall decor assemblage and the inside of my garage.
