Visiting "The Country Cottage", Hawley, Pennsylvania: Retro Collectibles And Decor For Your Home

Lot's Of Retro Surprises At "The Country Cottage", Hawley, Pennsylvania

The "Country Cottage" on Main Street in downtown Hawley, Pennsylvania has a great mixture of new and old treasures. Once a popular Multi-dealer antique store, "The Country Cottage" has converted to a large emporium featuring collectibles, jewelry, textiles, gifts, decorating accessories , cottage style furnishing and more.

Retro Collectibles At "The Country Cottage"

On a recent visit to this charming store located in Wayne County in the borough of Hawley, I spotted
plenty of kitchen collectibles and retro items. With a name llike "The Country Cottage", you wouldn't expect to find 50's funk....but I did!

Vintage Red And White Enamel Table

Of course I fell in love with the red and white enamel table and the padded vinyl chairs and stool which sat alongside the table.

If my car wasn't already packed with suitcases and other vacation "stuff' I would have taken the Retro table and chairs home with me. I am still thinking about them!

What I liked about "The Country Cottage" was how the owner mixed everything together coming up with a lot of surprises at every turn. One minute I would be enjoying wonderful handmade rugs and I would look up and find a 1950's lamp and table. Victorian items shared space with Shabby Chic and Mid-Century and the whole concoction just went together quite well.

Visiting The Hawley Antique Exchange, Hawley, Pennsylvania

Hunting For Antiques In Hawley, Pennsylvania

It's been awhile since I went bopping around Hawley, Pennsylvania antiquing. But after a hiatus, I was back in the region and visiting the Hawley Antique Exchange on Route 6 (Belmonte Avenue),
Hawley , Pennsylvania.

Multi-Dealer Antique Shop On Route 6 In Hawley, Pennsylvania

This Multi-dealer antique store sits on top of the hill as you leave the center of town. The Antique Exchange advertises 30 dealers. but once inside there seems to be so much more as this Antique Mall expands into several large rooms and an upstairs area as well,

Looking For Kitchen Collectibles, Retro, Cottage, Mid-Century

As you know, my eye goes to kitchen collectibles as well as retro, cottage, Mid-Century, whimsical and more. But this older group shop has everything from furnishings to toys, paintings, paper, clothing, glassware, pottery etc. It really is a fun place to go poking around.

About Hawley, Pennsylvania

Hawley, a borough of Wayne County in the Poconos was named for Irad Hawley, the first president of the Pennsylvania Coal Company. This Lake Region attracts many year round residents as well as summer vacationers. The nearby Woodloch Pines Family resort brings thousands of visitors to Hawley each year.

I discovered Downtown Hawley when I ventured out of Woodloch and went hunting for antiques and collectibles. Over the years, many of the shops have changed hands, but the Hawley Antique Exchange is still stuffed with lots of good stuff.

Visiting The Antique Garage West 25th Market In New York City

The Kitschy Collector Loved Shopping At The Antiques Garage

I finally got a chance to visit The Antique Garage West 25th Street Market in Manhattan and really had a GREAT time. The market is located on West 25th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues) and is open 9 AM -5 PM every weekend.

Loved The Lower Level Of The Antique Garage

After strolling through the upper level, The Kitschy Collector ventured down to the lower level and felt an immediate adrenaline surge. I was in junk heaven. You couldn't peel me away (even for lunch). I was like a kid in a candy store with eyes wide open, exhilarated as I made my way up and down the aisles poking through boxes of fresh finds and kibbitzing (chatting) with the New York dealers.

Meet Ronnie Who Owns Several Booths On The Lower Level Of The Antique Garage When You First Enter The Garage

The very first vendor (Ronnie) you will see as you walk down the ramp to the lower level has got fabulous retro stuff including kitchen collectibles, jewelry, vanity items, clothing, pottery, toys, dolls, textiles etc. Ronnie told me it takes her hours to set up her multiple booths and hours to pack her wares up on Saturday to return again on Sunday. But she does it each week and spends a good deal of time making her collectibles look quite attractive.

You'll Find Attractive Antiques As Well As Plenty of Amazing Vintage Treasures Piled High....It's All GREAT

Having a beautiful booth is not the norm for most vendors who sell on the street or in indoor markets in New York. But at The Antique Garage you will find a mixture of vendors with very unusual and interesting collections as well as dealers who pile the junk up in mounds for your to pick through. It is all there for the buyers to sort through.

The same people who run The Antique Garage also manage The West 25th Street Market and The Hell's Kitchen Flea Market

Visiting Centerport Antiques And Etceteras, Centerport, N.Y.

Antiquing on The North Shore Of Long Island: Stopping In Centerport

It was off to the North Shore of Long Island, bopping around with my sister visiting some really fun antique shops and Multi-dealer stores. One of my favorite stops was visiting "Centerport Antiques And Etceteras" on Route 25 (Main Street).

Centerport Antiques Is In a Lovely Setting With Cared For Gardens

When you pull up to this charming group shop which is spread into several cottage, you are wondering just what will you find inside? The exterior buildings and grounds are well taken care of with a colorful whimsical theme. Specially made signs with cute sayings greet you as well as many potted seasonal blooming flowers and rock gardens. It is really important for owners of antique shops to create inviting shops. Here the owners went the extra mile to paint the exterior of their store in eye catching colors. It's an easy place to find over and over again.

What Will You Find At Centerport Antiques?

But, enough time of the cute outside...it is time to tell you about what is inside! Once again this is one of those group shops that looks smaller than it actually is. You will find a mix of collectibles, jewelry, decorative pieces, primitives, cottage collectibles, Country collectibles and antiques, wall decor, wicker furniture, Victorian, dolls, toys etc. Of course I am on the hunt for kitchen collectibles, so I size up a place based on what it offer in vintage kitchenwares.

Plenty of Kitchen Collectibles At Centerport Antiques

Centerport did indeed have many dealers with lovely displays of older housewares, kitchen-wares, glassware, textiles etc. You will find a pleasant staff and lots of goodies to take home.

Visiting The Peoples Store Antique Center In Lambertville, New Jersey

Antique Hunting Is Fun In
Lambertville, New Jersey

Across the bridge from New Hope, Pennsylvania

For quite some time now I have been eager to find my way to Lambertville, New Jersey, a quaint town with Victorian homes just across the small bridge from New Hope, Pennsylvania. Photo is of http://bridgestreethouse.com/

Insider's Scoop On Lambertville

Insiders told me that I would find many more antique shops in Lambertville than New Hope, so that is where I started my antiquing day trip.

Arriving the day before, I stayed in Princeton, New Jersey and visited The Tomato Factory Antique and Design Center. The gals in that fabulous Multi dealer store sent me on my way with some maps and tips about what stores to visit in Lambertville.

Lambertville Becoming A Haven For Young Artsy Types

I pushed my hubby out the door of our hotel (in Princeton) real early in the morning so that I would have plenty of strolling time in Lambertville. But, there was no need to be too early. Lambertville is now becoming an artsy haven where younger store owners are taking a more leisurely approach to "time". Some shop owners opened their stores promptly at 10:00 in the morning while other owners seemed to ease their way into work starting at 11:00 or noon.

Starting My Antique Journey At The People Store Antique Center

That for me was frustrating, because my engine was running and it is rare for me to have my husband (my chauffeur) on duty at 10:00 am (which is early for him). Never the less, there were plenty of seasoned antique dealers who were indeed open.

I started my day at The Peoples Store which has been at 28N. Union Street, Lambertville, New Jersey for four decades. This a a good place to start the antique trail because it is a large store with over forty dealers (although it looks like more) on several levels. I had the most fun on the lower level where I found very exciting vintage clothing and many whimsical and quirky displays of collectibles. The upper floor had a nice selection of decorative home items such as stained glass windows, sculptures, paintings and furnishings. On the main level you will find a wonderful variety of antiques and collectibles covering all interests.

"Under The Pig" Antiques And Collectibles in Park Slope, Brooklyn Is Home To New York Retro And Kitsch

Kitsch Collectors: You Will Love "Under The Pig" In Park Slope, Brooklyn

Somehow I wound up on Fifth Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn yesterday home to historic townhouses, hip eateries, bars, shops and "Under The Pig". Located between 4th & 5th St. "Under The Pig" in this popular section of Western Brooklyn, is a funky collectibles shop with
some of the best kitsch I have seen in quite awhile. And you all know how much I adore kitsch!

Floor to Ceiling Tschotskes

A small shop stacked from floor to ceiling with groovy tschotskes.

"Under The Pig" is a shop that got my attention immediately with funky stuff sitting on the sidewalk and a colorful window display of turquoise and yellow 1940s and 1950s pottery planters and vases.

New York, New York: Souvenir Kitsch

Once inside, I found lots of 1950's lamps, collections of vintage New York souvenirs, salt and pepper shakers", barware, beverage glasses, wall decor, pottery, tikki, kiitchenware, knick knacks, head vase planters, toys, games etc.

Formerly located in the East Villgae of Manhattan, Under The Pig's owner has been selling retail for almost a decade and has a following of retro lovers who appreciate Troy's ever changing inventory of oddities, memorabilia, decorative accessories, lighting, mod and fifties collectibles.

Tea For Two At Past And Future Fine Antiques in Lenox, Massachusetts

Exquisite Tea Collectibles At Past & Future

All I can say is that if you want to see the most exquisite collection of teapots, tea cups, chocolate pots, decorative plates, silver, elegant glassware and more, crank up your car and head to Lenox, Massachusetts. Right on Church Street in the Village is a shop called "Past and Present, owned my Marcy Cohen. This has to be one of the most gorgeous antique shops you will ever visit.

Snapping Lots of Photos Of Gorgeous Hand Painted China On Display At Past & Future Fine Antiques

Of course I was so busy taking photographs for all of you to see, that I didn't actually get a chance to do any shopping. But, truthfully, I would want almost everything in this shop. The Berkshires is loaded with antique shops, but this is one of my favorites.

Lovely Tea Collectibles

Marcy has very lovely vignettes of her spectacular collection. I particularly loved the lilac inspired settings. But everywhere you look in this shop, you will see beautiful serving pieces, luncheon, dining and tea related collectibles.

Dreaming Of Owning A Tea Room

I have always dreamed of owning a Tea Room/ antique shop with tea collectibles. I never could decide if I would go in a whimsical direction and call my Tea Room- shop "The Mad Hatter" or go in a more sophisticated direction and name my shop "Lady Dianne's Tea Room" (my name). If I ever end up fulfilling my fantasy of owning a Tea Room, I would want everything Marcy Cohen has in her shop! (I better start saving up).

Displaying A Breakfast Set Inside A Basket

And I would love it if Marcy would come and arrange my room settings. Take a look at how she has displayed a breaakfast set in a large basket. How sweet is this? This certainly looks better than having plates and tea cups sitting on a shelf. But you do need room to be able to showcase your Breakfast Set inside a basket.

Where To Find A Spot For A Tea Room?

So if any of you know a charming spot for a Tea Room in and around The Farmington Valley of Connecticut, please let me know. I already have the baker picked out. In fact, I know exactly what I'll have on the menu.......but I do welcome suggestions.......perhaps some day, I will have a Tea Room...which do you like better for a name
"The Mad Hatter" or "Lady Dianne's"?

P.S. Please don't spill the bean...oh I mean tea leaves....this is still only a fantasy!
