A funny thing happened on the way to trying to tell people about my site I Antique Online.com....I build a Facebook page for I Antique Online.com to get the word out about I Antique Online.com and now the Facebook page is catching on and people are landing there and getting cozy. Antique Social Networks For Clueless Collectors

Now, you may think that because I run the largest FREE social network on antiques and collectibles that I know something about social media. Nope...nope...nope. I am so behind it is seriously ridiculous. Yesterday my son caught me up on Instagram. I haven't even tackled Twitter yet.

Having A Ball On A Social Network For Collectors  

I have been writing a series of posts this week about I Antique Online.com,  the largest social netork for collectors of antiques and collectibles. While there are many very successful websites and social networks that cater to specific areas of collecting, I Antique Online.com is the Grand Central Station, if you will, of the antiques and collectibles world.


Name It, You'll Find Everything For  Collectors On I Antique Online.com

Starting with just a few members and a handful of groups and features,when the site debuted in 2008,  the site now has expanded to 12,000 members and over two hundred group forums  for collectors of glassware, China, toys, vintage clothing, jewelry, tools, dolls, kitchenwares, Mid Century, paper, holiday, tea collectibles, ceramics, art, cookie jars, lighting, Pyrex, textiles, linens, buttons, games, Disney, records,  silver, barware, aprons, primitives, Victorian, cottage, furniture, decoys, model trains, marbles, cookbooks and on and on. As they say in the social media biz....the site is maturing.

Bantering About The Good Old Days 

 Recently, I have noticed a trend on the site where members in many of the groups are forming social groups within groups and having a ball. Key to this lighter socializing is when you are fortuunate to have a moderator who keeps all the balls in the air. One of our groups on I Antique Online.com is called "The Good Old Days". The moderator, Tom Nichol, needed to leave the community for a extended personal absence last year and his group went flat as can be. When he returned to I Antique Online.com and to his groupp "The Good Old Days"  the bantering returned and the group is back to being a real favorite on the site.

"Let's Guess What This Is?" Takes You On A Wild Ride: Hold On

Another fun group on I Antique Online com is named "Let's Guess What This Is ?" In this group a member posts a collectible object that is unique and perhaps not too familiar to many to most people  and the group has to figure out what it is with a series of probing questions. questions.

The posts can be hilarious and the tension  to solve the puzzle palpable. While this group has had a few leaders here and there, I am the overall moderator to this group until I can find just the right person who wants to go along on a wild ride.

Social Networking For Antique Dealers

Are You A Clueless Computer Person Who Loves to Antique?

On a recent visit to Brimfield, the super star of all open air Flea Markets, I polled numerous antique dealers about their computer habits. Believe it or not, a very large amount of people I talked with said they felt they were really behind the times when it came to being computer savvy. Antique dealers come in all varieties but many dealers who grew up in the 40s or 50s are not rushing to get into social media circles. They prefer sitting in front of their tents selling their antiques and collectibles the old fashioned way. If only they knew what they might be missing.

I Antique Online.com Is The Facebook of The Antique World

In fact many older antique dealers told me that they needed to recruit adult children or grandchildren to help them launch an online store or to keep up with an antique website. They all said they needed a lot of computer support to get by. When I invited many of these antique dealers who were selling at Brimfield to join I Antique Online.com, (The Facebook of the antique world), they retreated and seemed too nervous to hear more.

Social Networking Is A Piece Of Cake

But here is the scoop....you need not be computer savvy to use I Antique Online.com. You don't even need a grandchild to help you get started on I Antique Online.com Signing up to the largest social network on antiques and collectibles is a piece of cake. You can do it! I did it and I am about as computer clueless as they come.

Antiques And Chocolate

If you are an antique dealer you will LOVE social networking. Trust me....antiquing on I Antique Online.com is as much fun as sneaking into the kitchen at midnight for a piece of chocolate!
